Prawn Rava Fry | Crispy Kolambi Fry | Shrimp Fry Recipe

Prawn fry is a quick, simple and easy starter recipe that can be made in under 30 minutes.
This is a protein-rich, beginner-friendly, easy-to-make, keto-friendly snack dish.
Prawn fry also known as kolambi fry is a delicious starter mostly served as an appetizer or as a side dish with non-veg meals.

Ingredients
  

To Marinate Prawns

  • 200 grams Prawns, de-shelled & de-veined
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger-Garlic Paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Garam Masala Powder
  • 1 tablespoon Coriander Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Tamarind Juice OR Lemon Juice
  • Salt to taste

For Crispy Covering

  • 3 tablespoons Rava (Semolina/Sooji)
  • 2 tablespoons Rice Flour (Tandul Peeth)
  • 1 tablespoon Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder
  • 1/4th teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 4-5 tablespoons Oil, to shallow fry

Instructions
 

  • Marinate prawns with red chilli powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, coriander powder, ginger-garlic paste, tamarind pulp and salt. Marinate for 15 minutes.
  • For coating, in a mixing plate, add rava (semolina), rice flour, red chilli powder, turmeric powder. Mix well.
  • Coat the marinated prawns with spiced rava mixture and shallow fry.
  • Flip and fry from both the sides until crisp.
  • Prawn rava fry - Kolambi fry is ready.

Air Fryer

  • Preheat the air fryer to 180°C (350°F) for about 3-5 minutes.
  • Lightly spray or brush the fryer basket with oil.
  • Place the prawns in a single layer in the fryer basket. Make sure the prawns are well-coated and not too moist.
  • Lightly brush or spray the prawns with soil to help them crisp up.
  • Cook at 180°C (350°F) for 8-10 minutes. Flip halfway through.
  • You will need to adjust the time depending on the size of the prawns.
  • Once golden brown and crisp, remove the prawns immediately from the fryer and serve.

Tips for Air Frying:

  • Do not overcrowd the basket as it can lead to uneven cooking.
  • Even though we are making it in the air fryer, lightly coating the prawns with oil will help the semolina (rava) become crisp.
  • Halfway through, make sure to flip the prawns so they cook evenly from all sides.
  • Prawn rava fry - Kolambi fry is ready.
